This is the whole note. Not three thousand words of template written by somebody else’s lawyer.

Thing stored on your device

On your machine

A few small notes, kept in your own browser.

Some buttons save a choice into your own browser as local storage, so the next page remembers it. Nothing is saved until you press something:

  • ll-unit: inches or centimeters, from the in and cm switch at the top of every page.
  • ll-room: the room size you typed into a calculator, so the next calculator starts with it. Every page that shows it has a button to forget it.
  • ll-guide- and ll-have-: the steps you ticked off in a project, and the things you said you already own.
  • ll-list: the pieces you saved with the My list button, with their names and Amazon links, so you can come back to them or send them to your Amazon cart.

It never leaves your machine, nobody here can read it, and clearing your browser data removes it. There is no cookie banner on this site because there is nothing to ask you about.

Third parties

Who else is in the room when you read a page

Being honest about this is more useful than promising nothing, so here is every outside party a page can touch, and exactly when.

Fonts The typefaces on this site are served from this site itself, not from Google Fonts, so loading a page sends no request to Google.
Amazon Only if you click a product link. At that point you are on Amazon, under their cookies and their policy, and they know the visit came from one of my four tags, which all start with leaselayer and only tell me which part of the site you left from. They report totals to me, never people. Nothing loads from Amazon while you are here.
Kit Only if you give it your email: for your list, the free PDF or Chenille’s Box. Kit receives your address and what you asked for, and sends the emails. Nothing loads from Kit while you read.
YouTube Episodes on this site show a still picture until you press play. Only then does the video load, from YouTube’s privacy-enhanced address (youtube-nocookie.com), under their policy.
The search box It has no server behind it. Pressing Go opens a page on this site with your words in the address bar, and that is as far as it goes.
Pinterest No board is embedded anywhere on this site today, so Pinterest sets nothing here. The look pages link out to the profile, and a link is just a link: nothing loads until you click it. If that ever changes, this row changes with it.
Analytics None. No analytics, no tracking pixel, no heatmap, no session recorder. I do not know how many people read this.

Email

Email, and only if you ask for it

On the My list page you can ask for your list by email. When you do, your address and the link to your list go to Kit (kit.com), the email service I use. Kit sends one email from nora@leaseandlayer.com with a button back to your list on this site. The email has no Amazon links in it.

The free PDF of the renter’s numbers works the same way: your address goes to Kit, and one email arrives with a button to the download page. Kit also notes where you signed up, so the email matches what you asked for.

The newsletter, Chenille’s Box, is one email on the second-to-last Saturday of each month. You only get it if you sign up on its page or tick its box next to the PDF form, which starts unticked. Asking for your list or the PDF never adds you to it. Every email carries an unsubscribe link that works on the first click, and addresses will never be sold, rented or swapped.

Want your address removed? Write to nora@leaseandlayer.com and it goes.

Your side of it

What you can ask for, and how fast

Ask what I hold on you and I will tell you, which today is nothing at all. Ask me to delete it and it goes. Corrections take one message. No form to fill out, no ticket number, no fourteen working days. Write to nora@leaseandlayer.com and it reaches me.

This note changes when the site changes, and the date below moves with it. If a version of this page ever gets longer than one screen of reading, something has gone wrong.
