Some of the links on this site go to Amazon. If you buy through one, I earn a small commission and you pay exactly the same price. That is the whole arrangement, and this page is the long version of it.

That sentence is required. The rest of this page is the version I would give you in a kitchen.

In plain words

What an affiliate link actually is

Some links on this site go to Amazon and carry a tag that says the click came from me. There are four of them, one per part of the site, so that I can tell which pages are worth writing: leaselayerguides-20 on the guides, leaselayerdiy-20 on the projects, leaselayer-20 on the shop-the-room pages and leaselayerblogs-20 on everything else. They are all mine and they all pay into the same account; the only thing they change is which line of the report your click lands on. If you buy something in that visit, Amazon pays me a percentage of it.

That is the entire mechanism. There is no middleman, no tracking pixel of mine, and no deal with the brand. I pick a product, I write why it is the right size for the room in question, and if you buy it the site earns a few percent.

Pages that carry those links say so at the top, in an olive band, before the first link. Not in a footer. Not in gray six point type at the bottom of the page. Look at the top of the rug guide and you will see it above the fold.

The part people worry about

What it does not change

Your price It costs you nothing extra. The price you pay is the price anybody pays that day, arriving from anywhere.
The advice The number comes first and the product second. Twenty four inches past the table edge is twenty four inches whether or not there is a rug I can link.
The catch Every buying block on this site carries one line that could cost me the sale. The pad you do not need. The rug you should not buy.
Your data I do not see who clicked or who bought. Amazon reports totals, not people. The privacy note covers the rest.

Star ratings quoted, in total

Two rules I hold myself to

No prices, and almost no stars

Amazon does not allow a price on a page like this one without access to their API, and I do not have it. A price I typed by hand would be wrong within the week anyway. So you get the size, the variant, and the reason it is that one. The figure lives on their page, where it is current.

Star ratings are the same problem with worse consequences. A rating only goes on this site if I read it off the product page that day, and the date goes next to it. Right now that has happened exactly once, on the rug: 4.3 stars across 5,208 ratings, checked Sep 15, 2026. Every other product here carries no rating at all, and that is deliberate.

How I choose what I link

The law bit

Why the line sits at the top and not the bottom

If you are going to weigh what I say about a product, you should know how I get paid before you read the recommendation, not after. So the line goes above the first link, in small type, once. A recommendation you cannot audit is not worth much.

Some links on this page go to Amazon. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases, which is how the site pays for itself.
